The 2009 Champ, Steve, started 2011 as he finished 2009 on top! A fine 35 gave him a 6 shot victory at the Kingsway, a new venue for the tour. Mike took 2nd after a count back with Stuart. New handicaps for these 3 tomorrow!

We were all impressed with the Kingsway course which proved a stiff test for all but Steve.

Result
1 – Steve Reid
2 – Mike Caddle
3 – Stuart Ferguson

This year it is the best 6 scores that will take the tour crown and most will be hoping they can drop their score from day 1!

After a long day travelling out we arrived at the villa just after 11 PM USA time. Having set off from Brampton at 7:30 AM it took twenty one and a half hours. Getting through immigration was a pain and by the time we got in to the mini van it had taken two hours since we landed to clear the airport.

Day 1 news and scores will be posted tomorrow.

Good night.

The weather forecast for the tour starting to look good and there are no immediate concerns on the hurricane front!

We understand that a tour member recorded his best score round Brampton on Saturday, a fine 73 gross. The player currently has a handicap of 8.5 and thus this score returns a net 64!!! If the CSS was 71 then this excellent round would see his handicap reduced by 1.4 to 7.1, perhaps a meeting of the handicap committee should be held on board the 747 on Wednesday!

Great knock Steve, see you are again coming into form at the right time.

There was a problem with the voting section and I had to clear all the votes that were posted so please have another go. Graham’s brother was out in May and sent me this report on the courses they played, which may help. You can also go to the course’s own website, to refresh your memory, by using the links a little further down the page again on the left.

Just back from Florida Andrew and thought you may like some feedback on the courses we played.

Waterlefe and Riverwood are must plays, both outstanding and less than £35 for 12.30 tee off times.

In the second group I would include University, Bobcat, Legacy, Sarasota National, Heritage Oaks and Kingsway (amazing greens and great value, £22 including lunch).

We also played Stoneybrook (now public and looking scruffy) Tatum Ridge (OK but better courses around) and Rosedale ( The novelty value has now worn off ).

We were unable to fit in games at River Strand and Herons Creek this year but both are courses I rate.

We made the error of playing Riverwood, Waterlefe and Rosedale on consecutive days and ended up shellshocked! Better to split them with a Legacy or Sarasota National. ( more forgiving fairways!)

Regards Craig.

Hurricane Irene on Track to Strike Southeast US
Aug 22, 2011; 4:22 AM ET
Irene remains destined to strike the southeastern United States later this week as a hurricane.

At present this is expected to hit the east coast of Florida as a Cat. 2 Hurricane so if this prediction is correct it should not cause any major problems to the gulf coast golf courses.
